Find out how our colleague Ousmane assisted an ex-offender in starting a new life and finding a new occupation.
Programme: Ex offenders
The client, who is now in his forties, joined the Get Set UK Ex-offenders Programme in October 2021 after being referred by DWP. He has an extensive offending background coupled with multiple health issues including sickle cell and epilepsy. However, after having been in hospital for a long period of time in January 2021, his health deteriorated due to a lack of post-op care and heavy medication. He became depressed and required our assistance.
Following his initial evaluation, the participant was presented with the Get Set Live vacancies and quickly expressed an interest in the Beechwood cleaning roles. Our Employment Advisor Ousmane invited him to one of our workshops to see if it was the right job for him. Because of his eagerness to begin work, he was quickly assessed and joined his new company the day after.
After one month with Beechwood, the client decided he wanted to work more hours and in logistics. Our colleague immediately started looking for warehouse positions and registered him with Extra Staff, a local logistics agency. On the same week, the participant started his new job as a Fedex warehouse operative. His objective is to have his own Cleaning Company in the future.
“I find Ousmane very hard working and patient advisor to work with. He does his best to help you find a job that is suitable for you and one you will enjoy. He is a very well-presented man who will go above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied. Every meeting was excellent, and Ousmane gave me the confidence boost I needed. I finally feel like I’m getting somewhere despite my health issues. So, thank you very much Ousmane for all the help you have given me to find work, I really appreciate it. I would definitely recommend Get Set UK Services!” – The participant
