Get Set UK Newsletter April 2020

Firstly, we hope that everyone reading this is keeping safe and well.

At Get Set UK, we feel that a key part of what makes us successful is ensuring that, as a Team and as individuals we are always working to the absolute best of our abilities.

That’s why, we started the month by getting everyone to complete a questionnaire linked to how they are feeling in the current climate. We did this to ensure that we can identify any areas of concern and get people the right level of support if needed. We would urge any employer to do the same. Mental Health and Wellness are key right now and it’s something we all need to support each other with. Make sure that whilst your teams may have to stay at home, they are not suffering with the feeling of ‘isolation’. Take time to ensure you speak with your teams and peers regularly during this time.

ANONYMOUS

We had a customer who had applied for a job with a care company, and is now supporting on the frontline by working as a Mental Health Support Worker. 4 weeks in so far and all is going well. We are working closely with the customer as she was understandably anxious about leaving the house. To help overcome this the team call the customer at an agreed time daily to discuss their general health and wellness, the new job, and normally go on to talk about day to day things because, it all helps build confidence after being out of work for a number of years.

KEVIN

Meet Kevin. Kevin was unemployed for two years before he came to Get Set. He wanted a job in administration but due to his lack of experience, he realised this expectation wasn’t realistic at the time. After some discussion – Kevin agreed to go for an interview for a Cleaning Operative role with Incentive FM. The interview was a
huge success, Kevin was very well liked by the managers. Kevin wasn’t completely sold on the role, he assumed that it was unlikely he’d enjoy it or stay (mainly because it was cleaning) but also, Kevin is shy and wasn’t sure he’d be comfortable dealing with so much of the public. Fast forward one year and Kevin tells us that despite being offered several other roles within the company, he turned them down. Kevin said his colleagues are lovely, he enjoys working outdoors, dealing with the public, and learning all about the history of Covent Garden. Kevin also says, he feels much healthier and has lost a lot of weight too!

Success

Get Set UK did not allow lockdown to get in the way and stop us having another exciting month, on the contrary! In April we welcomed 11 new colleagues, carried out a virtual and interactive induction, awarded four new programmes, completed 5 Latent Benefits training, and finished the month with an eventful Team Get Set Quiz Night!

We had our amazing Head of Employer and Partnership Manager, Helena Choudhury, host our Get Set UK Quiz night. Siobhan Forde, our Programme Lead-Family Works West, South and Central London said: “It was really nice to put the tools down and hear the sound of laughter moving through my computer screen. During these testing times Get Set UK are constantly finding new ways to support their staff not only physically but also mentally and for that I want to say Thank you”.

Employee of the Month

Congratutlations to Zavery Tito. He joined Get Set in April and bonded with the team instantly. Zavery is highly diligent and had a good month for performance! Keep up the good work – we look forward to more success! Huge congrats to Zavery and of course, all of those who were nominated.

Positive news

Finally, we would like to announce that we have been chosen as the successful bidder for two further contracts in addition to the Work and Health programme East London and the Lambeth Covid-19 Rapid Response programme we won and mobilised earlier this month.

  • Southwark Covid-19 Rapid Response programme with additional mental health support attached will start on Monday 27th April.
  • South London Recruitment Service commissioned by the Business Improvement Districts in Lambeth. A three year programme supporting local BID employers to recruit and retain local talent across Lambeth. The commencement of this programme will be later in 2020 due to the crisis.

We have also become an accredited London Living Wage employer.
