Get Set UK Newsletter August 2020

August has been another busy month for Get Set UK. With so many people facing redundancies this year, it has made us even more committed to supporting our customers back into work.

This determination has led to a great win and we are therefore pleased to announce that we have been successful in another bid to deliver pre-employability courses for 74 recently made redundant Lambeth residents funded by Lambeth Adult Learning.

The first course commenced at the end of August. This win aligns with our strategy to expand our service into the delivery of training. Together with our recent MHFA successful tender, which the first course is being delivered in September, we will train a total of 290 participants this academic year. Through this win, we’ll deliver a live online 3 week non-accredited personal development course with 10-weeks wraparound support. To include an initial assessment of their current situation and skillset, 1:1 online mentoring, peer to peer forums, support with job searches, objection handling, interview skills, building confidence and so much more.

Back to the real world

We are very excited about heading back to the office in September. Having gone through an in-depth risk assessment, we can now start reconnecting with our colleagues at Kennington Lane and Church Street in person.

Recognitions

August’s Employee of the Month is Ife-Dapo Tobin. Ife has always demonstrated a can-do attitude! Supported by going into Kennington office several times in August, at short notice and even whilst on holiday to support logistical things. Ife also had a cracking month for job starts and achieved 5 jobs in August.

Employability support

With the high volume of new claimants across all Job Centres, Get Set UK have been working closely with Lewisham and Southwark JCPs, offering employability service and job opportunities to customers in bulk via on-line sessions.

We arranged one of our many Employers to deliver a virtual information session to 30+ claimants. We had a  great turn out where claimants, were able to meet and speak to the employer first hand. As this was a success with Southwark JCP’s, Lambeth JCP’s also want a taste of these exciting opportunities for claimants.

Here’s some feedback from the participants: “What a fantastic session and great summary” Forrest Hill JCP“, “Very well organised and delivered on-line”, “It was reassuring to see happily and friendly staff who are willing to help me return to work”.
